Bio

Music , like life, has many shades which make it more interesting and worth living for. Most find someone to share the experiences with and through these bonds great synergies can be born like the one between Davide & Luciano. They have opposite characters yet share a similar approach towards life which has, virtually by itself, taken care of how to focus on their work. Luciano Cantone Like most great stories, why and how certain events come together can't really be explained like the value of innocent gestures that create those but/if situations: hadn't Luciano brought his drum set to Davide's studio... In any case what's important is that they do. Music is passion, its an expression of our creativity; a real artist can be considered someone that can express their deepest fears and hopes through sounds that are able to play these delicate keys within us. Luciano's project starts right from this, to establish a music production that primarily considers what is artistic about making music itself therefore allowing this musical growth and expansion. This initial step was the creation of Edizioni Ishtar which was later followed by Family Affair Distribution in the early '90's giving a start to the an italian electronic scene worldwide. Davide Rosa A very fundamental part to all this is Davide Rosa, Ishtar's executive producer and co- founder. This is the strong bond that keeps the idea of this label running, it creates a constant exchange of ideas that result in the many new successful productions... And all this because of a simple gesture, Luciano working in distribution, at the same time started to rent a small space to play his drums at Davide's recording studio close by where he could play his drums. Today Family Affair distributes labels like Compost, Soul Jazz and F-Communications in Italy, it also distributes Ishtar Productions worldwide. Luciano's jazz influence gave birth to the creation of Schema Records and the start of two great artistic relationship with Nicola Conte, producer and influence to the Schema sound, and Gerardo Frisina, virtually a living music encyclopedia. This extensive knowledge brought about the creation of Rearward Records at a later date; a label concerned with jazz music between the 60's and 70's, which includes re-stamped editions of artists like Sahib Shihab, Kenny Clarke, Francy Boland and Giorgio Azzolini. This dedication to old roots gave the desire to Ishtar to buy the entire master and publishing catalog of Campi-Cawoo. The creation of good music requires knowledge of music itself, our life though, has changed extensively and the way to create and produce music also. Davide has grown with this idea of making music, basically when to create a "sampled" sound, the tape itself was cut and taped back together. The desire to experiment and understand how to experiment attracted Davide to electronic music composition and later applied it by making small productions, music for commercials, and most of all video projections, this is the second focus point of Ishtar. Davide's work in his own recording studio for more than ten years has given him the chance to work first hand with artist and producers of every genre; from acid jazz to classical composition. This allows him to understand the problematics that his artists and producers might have in developing their project and save precious time. Milano 2000 is the research label created by Davide & Luciano which is based on ambient music. Great contributors and great source of inspiration are Fred Ventura and Stefano Ghittoni, respectively Vibrazioni Productions/Bedroom rockers and The Dining Rooms and and also features artists like S-Tone Inc, Soulstance and Madreblu. One problem for non-mainstream production is the availability of air time, popular radio stations hesitate to include new artists in their playlists and always favour a more pop approach. Fortunately Radio Popolare has not taken this direction and with their exclusive collaboration Sensible records was born. It focuses on ethnic music which takes us in different parts of the world, Moni Ovadia's and Bellemou Messaoud with its culture coming to life through sound. Our message is that one lesson to be learned is trying to share our own life with as many people as possible in a sensible and spontaneos manner. Thanks to all the musicians on this planet that by making music record a part of their digital self and allow us to understand we are all here together.
